Unidentified motorcyclists snatched a woman’s purse containing cash and documents and the mobile phones of two men in three separate incidents in Chandigarh in the last 24 hours.
The police said the incidents took place in Sector 13’s Mani Majra, and in sectors 47 and 44. They are considering the possibility that the same gang was involved in all three incidents.

In the first incident, Chandani Thakur, a resident of Samadhi Gate in Mani Majra, was crossing the main road near the Civil Hospital in Sector 13 around 12.30 pm on Monday, when two youths on a motorcycle came from behind and the pillion rider snatched her purse before fleeing with it. Police sources said the purse contained a cell phone, an ATM card, an Aadhaar card and Rs 2,000.
In Sector 47, Sadir – a resident of Mohali – reported that he was walking past the local gurudwara and talking on the mobile phone around 3 pm when a motorcycle rider snatched the device away. Sources said Sadir tried to chase the motorcyclist and shouted for help. A passerby informed the police control room about the incident.
Ramesh Verma of Sector 3 reported to the police that he had gone to meet a relative in Sector 44 when an unknown motorcyclist took away his cell phone. The police said FIRs in connection with each case were registered at the police stations in Mani Majra, Sector 34 and Sector 31.
