Maulana Abul Kalam Muhiyuddin Ahmed was born on November 11, 1888, and was known as one of the foremost leaders of the Indian freedom struggle. He was appointed as the first Education minister of independent India and served from 1947 to 1958. Maulana Kalam established numerous institutions including the Sahitya Akademi, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Lalit Kala Akademi, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to promote better education in the country.
