Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) today urged the United Nations Human Rights Commission to send its fact-finding team to Kashmir to assess ground situation.
On the eve of World Human Rights day, DFP held a seminar here. The seminar was presided over by the party secretary general, Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari.
“Continuous denial of the right to self determination is biggest human rights violation of people of Jammu Kashmir,” the speakers said. “It is imperative upon the United Nations to see whether its members are following the conventions they are signatory to. If any member state is found violating them, it must be dealt with it accordingly,” they said.
In his address, Moulana Tari expressed concern over prevailing situation in Kashmir. “Kashmiris are denied their political and social rights, which has resulted in chaos in the region. New Delhi is trying to link the people’s movement with the global militancy. However the fact is that few Kashmiri youngsters have decided to take up arms against New Delhi’s denial mode,” he said.
“New Delhi has also jailed JKDFP chairman, Shabir Shah after booking him in a fabricated case. Despite being seriously ill in Tihar jail, he is not provided suitable medical treatment endangering his life,” Tari said.
“The condition of almost all the political prisoners of Kashmir is same as they are suffering pathetic conditions in different jails in and outside Jammu Kashmir.
