The enforcement wing of Lakes and waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) on Tuesday carried out demolition drive in Wangund, Friends Colony and Dangerpora Teilbal here
A statement issued said four two-storey structures, one single-storey structure and a shop was demolished during the drive. “There was heavy resentment from the public who attacked the demolition squad with bricks,” the statement said.
According to enforcement officer LAWDA, the demolition drive would continue with full vigour to remove all illegal structures including palatial huts that have come up along the non-permissible zone in catchment area of Dal Lake.
He said the encroachments were being removed in pursuance to directions of High Court, which has called for removal of all illegal structures from the area. “Legal action was also initiated against the owners of houses and other structures which have come up in violation of the master plan in and around the Lake,” said the statement.
It asked people living within LAWDA jurisdiction not to go for any illegal constructions/ encroachments. “As the enforcement wing will continue with demolition driver the Tipper/Load carried owners are directed not carry construction material in the prohibited area of Dal/ Nigeen Lake without permission,” said the statement.
