Condemning the civilian killings in Pulwama on Saturday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and Member of Parliament (MP), Muzaffar Hussain Beigh on Sunday said that killings in Kashmir must be stopped forthwith and the people of Kashmir must not be used for the politics by the governments including Indian and Pakistan.

Beigh while talking to Kashmir News Service said that it is the high time for the two countries to sit and stop the killings once for all. “Government of India should also take measures to put an end to the civilian killings in Kashmir,” he said, adding that inquiry ordered by the Governor Satya Pal Malik should be conducted seriously those involved in the killings should be brought to book.

He added that compensation should be given to the families who lost their beloved ones and also to those who sustained injuries in yesterday’s incident at Pulwama.

Beigh said that forces must exercise maximum restraint on the encounter sites and should focus on surrender policy.

He said political parties irrespective of their ideologies should unite and insist both the countries including India and Pakistan to end the killings in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state Secretary and former MLA Shopian, advocate Muhammad Yousuf Bhat expressed pain over the loss of civilians at Pulwama.

In a statement he exhorted the government to ensure that forces carrying out operations against the militants, exercise restraint in dealing with the civilians, to avoid collateral damage.

“It is heart wrenching to see mothers wailing for their dead sons every now and then. The killing of civilians in Pulwama is very unfortunate, painful and regrettable. The government must exercise restraint to ensure that civilians are not killed and collateral damage is not done during operations against the militants”, Bhat said.

Terming the killings as ‘brutal’, Bhat demanded probe in the matter so that stern action is taken against the culprits involved in the gruesome act.

He urged the authorities to lodge an FIR against the culprits involved in the incident without any delay.
