Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted the resignations of Thupstan Chhewang, who was elected on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) mandate, following his differences with the party.
“Thupstan Chhewang, an elected member of Lok Sabha from Ladakh parliamentary constituency of Jammu and Kashmir has resigned from his seat in Lok Sabha and his resignation has been accepted by the Speaker with effect from 13 December 2018,” the Lok Sabha secretariat said in a bulletin.
The former BJP leader had tendered their resignations from party and Lok Sabha on November 14. Thupstan Chhewang had accused the central government and previous BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir of doing nothing in four years for Ladakh region.
In detail letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah, he said the BJP failed to fulfil the poll promises made during 2014 Lok Sabha elections despite absolute majority and it has become difficult for him to answer the people who elected him as an MP.
